In our platform, a Canvasser is any user of the system. That may be an actual canvasser in the field collecting surveys, or an administrator who sets up scripts, or a reporter who exports data out of the system. You'll determine their level of access when creating their account.
To get started, click the Canvassers button.
Next, click Add User.
You'll now be presented with the options for your new user.
Selected Campaign: if you have access to multiple campaigns, choose which one you want your user to belong to. You can always adjust this later and fine tune it with the user's security settings, covered below.
Active: ensure this box is checked so the user is active after being created. You'll uncheck this box if you ever want to disable a user's access to the platform.
Add Crew for User: if you want to create a crew that corresponds to this user, check this box.
Time Offset: select the time zone this user will be located. This ensures the time stamp of certain reports and activities is accurate.
Security Group: this is how you choose this user's level of access. Here's the most commonly used groups:
User: this is a canvasser who will only have access to log in on a tablet. They will not be able to access to website at all.
Customer Super User: an internal administrator who will have full access to the platform. This includes script creation, canvasser management, reports, turf cutting, and more.
Group Leader: typically user for canvass directors or lead canvassers. These users will be able to create users, cut turf, and generate reports, but not modify scripts.
Reporter: this user will only be able to run and export reports.
These are the most commonly used security groups, but we can always help you set up a custom level of access for other user types.
Device Script: choose which script a user will see when they log onto a mobile device. This will also effect which turf they can be assigned to. Any user can be assigned a script and log in on a tablet, not just canvassers.
Next, you'll just need to fill in the details for this user:
The only required fields are username, password, and first and last name. There are no requirements on password strength. We recommend something short and easy to remember and enter for canvasser logins. Internal accounts can use stronger passwords.
If you won't have a certain set of known canvassers, you can also create generic accounts. For example, the usernames could be Fall2018canvass1, 2, 3, with corresponding first/last names. This is a quicker way to get canvassers up and running without creating an account for each. The only downside here is that you won't necessarily be able to tie a survey to an individual canvasser later if you need to, unless you keep track of who uses which login separately.
As soon as you create the user, it'll be ready for use immediately. Want to specify which campaigns, locations, or scripts an admin user has website access to? See this article about security access.
