Once you've uploaded a walklist to your script, you can begin the process of cutting turf. We'll go over the steps to carve out turf and prepare it for assignment to canvassers.

To begin, click the Turf Cutter button. Next, on the left side of the screen select your campaign, script, and state. Finally, you'll pick how you want to populate the map with addresses. You can either select zip code(s) (up to 50 at a time), or a tract (also up to 50 at a time).

Your data may or may not have tract data mapped. This is typically used for precincts, but can be mapped to anything in the source list, including school districts, legislative districts, or any other geographically identifying information.

Click Get Addresses to populate the map. Once you do, your addresses will appear as pins on the turf cutter. You'll get a total count of current doors at the bottom right corner of the map.

To cut your turf, select the Start Drawing tool at the top of the map.

Next, begin clicking around an area you want to designate as a piece of turf. Each click will add a corner to your turf. When you're done, double click to finalize the shape. You'll notice as you begin creating the shape, you'll get a real time count in the center of it showing you how many doors you've enclosed so far.

If you'd like to adjust the shape after finishing it, you can click the Resize Polygon tool at the top center to move any of the corners for you turf.

Once you have your shape finalized, you need to save it in order to assign it to a canvasser. At the bottom right corner of the map, a list of your turf will appear as you begin carving. In order to save your turf, check the box to the left of it's color, give it a name, choose which date you'd like to save it to (turf exists for one day in our system, however it can always be moved), then click Save selected items.
